End of 2nd Month Blogging!

Posted: 12:40 am by tom in Blog, Push Standards

This post is a day late admittedly, but I thought that I would mark the end of my second month blogging with a brief summary. I should clarify that this blog did start on the 5th of February, but I don’t think that it will work to keep making these monthly summaries on the 5th of every month. So… without further ado, this is how my 2nd month of blogging worked out.

Traffic wise was exactly what I’d hoped for and more. The site received OVER DOUBLE the amount of unique visitors that it did in it’s first month online, which I’m incredibly happy about. Here are the stats for March:

marchendofmonthstats3.jpg

I’m not sure that I can double these stats in April, but would be more than happy to match them.

Aside from traffic I suppose that there isn’t a lot to report. I’m still here, and still blogging… However, it has been a bit of an unfortunate month. After initially suffering from a huge university workload I was then ill for a week and unable to post. This largely accounts for me falling short of my 30,000 uniques predictions.

I’ve also been doing a lot behind the scenes in terms of planning and designing for my upcoming projects. Over this month you should see the launch of at least one of these ideas and get to hear about several others.I would like to thank my continued readership for their support and regular comments. You guys motivate me to keep blogging and I’ll put my all into posting the best content that I can for you.

Cheers!

I’m back!

Posted: 8:37 pm by tom in Blog, My Life, Push Standards

Hi everyone!

I’m finally back, after a week of being confined to my bed for most of the time with flu. Apart from being extremely boring this was also very annoying as I didn’t feel up to blogging, and didn’t have the energy to research new posts. However, I’m now back home and feeling a LOT better. I will be updating the blog as per usual starting tomorrow, but thought that I would let you all know that Push Standards has definitely not fallen by the wayside.

During the 6 hour train journey back home I began (and almost finished) the design for one of my upcoming projects. I’ve decided that there’s no use waiting around for a hugely successful idea to hit me and not take any chances in the meantime. So, given that mentality I’ve vowed to launch ALL of my website ideas over the next couple of months, starting now. I’ve aimed to launch this next project by the end of next week, and this looks entirely possible right now. I don’t want to say too much about it yet, but may well post more information and a design preview some time before launch. Of all my website ideas there are two that I’m feeling could be very successful. This coming site is aimed at web designers, and the second site will be aimed at bloggers. Both will be VERY helpful resources I’m hoping and should take off within their respective communities.

Being confined to my bed for a week I’ve also spent a fair amount of time doing some simple budgeting and goal setting. I’m aiming to treat summer vacation as the time to really push myself and see if I could envision doing what I currently do for my career (after university that is). As I said I’m aiming to launch every website idea that I have (well the decent ones) and then try and build up a good passive income. I figure that it would be well worth spending to get these ideas online and then hopefully be earning around $1000 per month doing NOTHING before the year’s out. Of course I’ll keep designing as this is what I love doing, but that passive income would be great security for me.

Finally, you’ll see some updates in my portfolio over the coming weeks. For now, I’ve added a great project for Common Sense Health that was completed recently. Check out the casestudy in my portfolio by clicking on the thumbnail below:

Quick Update

Posted: 10:56 pm by tom in Blog, My Life, Push Standards

Hi everyone,

Apologies for not posting anything of real interest today but I’m slaving away in the library to get an important essay done.

I just wanted to announce a few ‘coming soon’ developments to the blog.

  • Firstly I’m going to be monetizing the website properly soon. However, don’t worry the page won’t become laden with annoying adverts or anything. I’m thinking about keeping things very simple, such as ‘buy me a beer’ and non-obstrusive affiliate links. I’ll basically be combining the themes of my users voluntarily giving something back (for instance if they appreciate a good article or tutorial) and providing affiliate links WITH A PURPOSE that should provide useful content to my visitors. What I won’t be doing is splashing adsense all over the place. I’ll also hopefully be working on posting some paid reviews as my traffic is growing nicely right now. This strategy is partly inspired by the great video over at ShoeMoney about ‘monetizing your blog’.
  • Secondly I’m going to be taking promotion to the next level. I look set to receive as many unique visitors in the first week of March as I did in the entire month of February (around 11,000). I figured that this is the time to pull out all the stops and keep improving this traffic curve. I hope to definitely surpass 30,000 uniques this month! The good news for readers is that I’ll be posting about my promotional strategies (something I haven’t done properly in a while). I’ve got some really great ideas for how to effectively market the blog, so check back soon!
  • Finally, I’m going to be working to improve the content of Push Standards over the coming weeks. I’m not saying that I don’t like the content that I’m posting, but look out for some great new Photoshop tutorials, and insightful posts about blogging/marketing! I’m also thinking about getting into interviews, as I always appreciate a well-written interview with someone succeeding in their field.
  • On that note, I’m afraid that it’s back to the essay. Wish me luck, and check back tomorrow for a more substantial post! :)

End of Month 1 (+ Contest Winner!)

Posted: 9:40 pm by tom in Blog, Blogging, Push Standards

Wow! What an amazing first months blogging it’s been. Month 1 has actually gone by a lot quicker than I thought it would.

Firstly, let me just thank all of my loyal readers for taking the time to read my thoughts and supporting the blog, I really appreciate it.

I feel as if I’ve learnt more than I could have possibly hoped to in such a short space of time. It’s been stressful, hard, and sometimes downright messy. However… the one important fact is that I want to keep on blogging. Most blogs fail within the first 3 months, and most of these failures occur in the first month online. It feels great to not be one of these failures, and I can’t wait to see the blog continue to grow.

I’ve met some great people, and would like to do a shout out to those who supported me right from the word go. These people were a big inspiration for me to keep on writing and I’m really thankful for their support. Be sure to check out their blogs, they’re all great:

  • Tish from BloggingGal
  • Jim from Blogging Startup
  • Simon from Vivid Lamp
  • Josh from JoshTilton.com
  • Of course there are others, but these 4 people have been especially supportive right from the start.

Now… onto the cold hard stats. I’m not sure how many people may find this helpful or inspirational (it’s certainly nothing ground-breaking). However, I’m really pleased with PushStandard’s development and growth over just 30 days. I know that many blogs will take months or even years to reach these kinds of stats.

Now I should point out that I’ve stopped my blogging diaries temporarily due to time constraints. It’s a shame really, but if I have to choose between doing the diaries or posting every day then I know what matters more to my readers. Rest assured though that I’ll be posting about my traffic techniques in the coming weeks.

The recent surge in traffic is due to my latest photoshop tutorial being very well received (being featured on several large tutorial websites). Today’s stats look set to be the highest since launch, probably smashing through the 1000 barrier in about an hours time!

I’ll be posting more about how to achieve great traffic hopefully this weekend.

    Contest Deadline!

As this first month draws to it’s conclusion as does the opening contest that I posted on Feb 5th. If you remember I was offering $25 + 1 months free advertising on Push Standards in exchange for the best review this blog submitted.

I had a really tough time selecting a winner, but have decided to award the prize to Tish of BloggingGal for her excellent review.

Tish: Could you please let me know your Paypal email and I’ll send you the money. Also look out for your ad spot in the next day or two.

Ok, to draw this post to a close (it’s getting quite long now!). I would just like to thank everybody again for their support, guidance and continued readership. Please keep on reading the blog if you like what I’m doing and don’t be afraid to make yourself known through a comment ;). I would also really appreciate your RSS Subscription if you have the time, and feel free to enter yourself into my RSS Contest where you could win $5 for just one comment!

My final message to fellow bloggers is to keep blogging! I’ve gained so much from 30 days and so the idea of giving up on potential years worth of experience is ludicrous. You will undoubtedly suffer ups and downs, but keep at it.

    Until next time!
